Cactus Garden
The cactus garden in front of our home has become our surrogate child. We spend much time there, sitting on the front porch and watching them grow. We started the garden about six years ago, and add new plants when the spirits moves us. Some are planted directly into the ground and some are in pots.
The ground was basically clay, so we had to add several bags of Vermiculite and some gravel to promote better drainage. Even on very heavy downpours, water does not stand long inside of the cactus bed. We decided against adding crushed rock or gravel, because we thought it would be easier to control the weeds that like to grow among the cactus.
When you look at the pictures you will notice bits of art work mixed in to add variety. On the left are names of the "children" in our garden. If you want to adopt a cactus, let us know as we have starts for sale. Have fun!
